They are to answer and be knowledgeable about questions regarding BMT policy and MIEMSS regulations and relay any and all pertinent information to the Controller.
Additionally, the Communicator, will screen all calls before putting any through to the Controller, they will update the status' of road crews, deactivate units, track calls and crews using the Traumasoft system and fill the position of Transport Intake Specialist when needed.
The Communicator will know how to navigate the TraumaSoft system proficiently.
RequirementsGraduation from high school or equivalent.
45 days experience as Transport Intake SpecialistAbility to sit for a long period of time.
Ability to view computer monitor for extended period of time.
Ability to remain composed and multi-task in a busy, high-stress environment.
Ability to comprehend or learn department practices, rules and regulations.
Ability to operate telephone, teletype and other specialized computer communication equipment.
Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
Ability to think and react quickly and effectively to tense situations.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to recall details from numerous informational resources.
Ability to prioritize decisions based upon multiple criteria and identifiable standards of policies and procedures.

Pass background investigation.
Pass a pre-employment drug screen, and all subsequent random or for cause drug screening.
EMT experience preferred but not requiredSign the Butler Medical Transport non-disclosure form.
Job DutiesWill successfully perform ALL duties of the Transport Intake Specialist.
Will fill the role of Transport Intake Specialist if needed.
Will assume the role of Communicator for the scheduled shift in Dispatch.
Will navigate the Traumasoft system profienciently.
Intercept, distribute or answer all dispatch related calls from crews before requesting the intervention of the Controller.
Work well under high stress situations and maintain composure when communicating with crews.
Will be knowledgeable of MIEMSS and Butler Medical Transport policies and procedures.
Forward calls or consult with the Controller, only when you as the Communicator, cannot find the answers needed by the crews or customers.
Will continue to learn decision making skills to improve functions as a Communicator.
Will be familiar with the acceptable on scene times for BLS (20 minutes) and ALS (30 minutes) as stated in the BMT handbook.
Continuously check on crews and follow up with any that are on scene more than 20 minutes without calling in and state their reasoning in the notation section.
Notify the Controller 15 minutes prior to the crews being late and documenting the reasons why.
Have the Controller contact the current destination.
Will know how to check the AVL (Automatic Vehicle Locator)/Samsara status in any unit.
Notify Fleet Manager of any failures in the AVL (Automatic Vehicle Locator)Using Traumasoft, the Communicator will:
Activate, deactivate and update units when messages are received in a timely fashion throughout the entire shift.
Provide directions to road crews for pick up and drop facilities, as needed.
Act as the Transport Intake Specialist/ answer phone line for incoming calls after hours if needed and in excess of incoming calls to the Call Center.
Will review (throughout the shift) and accept Incoming Pool calls.
Also, will call requesting Medical facility, if needed, to discuss alternative times if original request is unmanageable.
Will have a direct line of communication with the controller at all times regarding both the crews and calls with regard to their needs.
Other duties assigned.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
